Candle Care 101

Safety Precautions

Before each burn, TRIM YOUR WICK to 1/4 inch. Keep your candle away from flammable objects and children and always make sure that your candle is burning on a level, fire resistant surface. Using candle coasters add extra security to the surface when burning. DO NOT burn your candle for more than 6 hours at a time. Stop use of candle when 1/4 of the wax remains and the metal  anchor becomes level with the wax.

Memory Burn

When you first light your candle, it is very important that you allow your melt pool  to completely melt across the top before you extinguish. Every time you ignite your candle, it sets the path for the following burn. If you only allow the candle to burn half of the diameter, then it becomes difficult for the next burn to melt the wax outside of that first burn.

Steady Flame + Placement

Placement of your candles play a huge part in the way your melt pool forms. Make sure that you place your candle away from a vent, fan, or anywhere where there is constant traffic that makes your flame blow inconsistent. It is important that your flame is consistent, steady, and has very minimal movement. If your melt pool is melting one side quicker than the other, rotate your candle a little.

Wooden Wick Lighting

Wooden wicks tend to slightly perform differently than hemp wicks. Sometimes it helps to light and melt the wax that is surrounding the base of the wooden wick. This gives the wick melted wax to burn before it gets lit. Wooden wicks tend to pull wax way slower than hemp wicks.

Tunneling

In the event of experiencing any tunneling with your candles, you want to make sure that you catch it in the very beginning. Simply wrap a piece of aluminum foil around your vessel and let the foil overflow the rim about 1 1/2 inch. This creates a heat pocket and circulates the heat inside of the vessel helping the side walls melt.
